A male inmate in Washington state, Bryan Kim—convicted of brutally murdering his parents—is trying to move back into a prison designated exclusively for women. Although he was previously housed at WCCW, he was removed after being caught having sex with a female inmate. Now, Mr. Kim has petitioned the Washington Court of Appeals to return him to WCCW, and the Department of Corrections (DOC) could preemptively grant his request at any moment.
Another male inmate, Nathan Goninan (aka, “Nonnie Lotusflower”), who is convicted of murdering a 17-year-old girl, is currently housed at WCCW, reportedly in a specialized unit. He claims that he is improperly being held in solitary confinement, despite previous infractions for sexually assaulting a female inmate and the DOC’s assessment that he poses an “unmitigated threat to the safety of other incarcerated individuals” within WCCW.
Allowing violent male offenders into a women’s facilities endangers every woman currently incarcerated there. We must act now to ensure the DOC keeps these offenders in a men’s prison, where they belong.
Please join us in signing the open letter below, urging the DOC to protect female inmates and prevent these unjust circumstances. The time to speak out is now—before it’s too late.
Please note that on January 7th, 2025, the letter was expanded to include a plea re: Nathan Goninan. Signatures for the updated letter start after a row of asterisks below. Read the original letter here.
